How to choose a kosher mezuzah scroll
Separate the case from the scroll
A decorative case protects the parchment but does not establish its kosher status. Confirm whether a handwritten scroll is included. Measure the case’s usable inside space, including width and closure clearance, before choosing a size.
Understand the script and inspection
Sephardic, Beit Yosef and Ari describe script traditions, not quality rankings. Choose according to family custom, with guidance from a rabbi or qualified scribe when needed. Computer scanning can flag textual issues, but human review remains important for letter forms and questions requiring judgment.
Compare the exact item
Compare scroll size, script, level of hiddur, inspection and whether the case is included. Ask what documentation is available for the specific scroll. See Mezuzah Cases & Home Blessings or ask the shop team.
