Choosing a wool tallit: size, tzitzit and price
Share this article
Start with fit and custom
Decide whether the tallit is for regular prayer, a bar mitzvah or a wedding. Measure a tallit that already fits, laid flat, and compare actual dimensions rather than size codes. Consider shoulder coverage, whether the wearer covers their head and whether the folded garment fits their bag.
Compare cloth and tzitzit separately
Check the stated wool composition, weave and care instructions. Ask whether the threads are included and already tied, what handwork refers to, and which tying custom is supplied. Ask a rabbi familiar with the wearer’s custom if you are unsure which option to choose.
Compare like for like
Compare the same dimensions, fabric and thread specification. Check whether an atarah, bag, embroidery and delivery are included. Select the actual options on the product page to see the current price rather than relying on a generic range. Browse Ruby Judaica’s tallit collection.
